Job title
PhD Researcher Johan Spamer is a PhD researcher at the International Institute of Social Studies (Erasmus University Rotterdam). He holds a Master's degree in Transport Economics, an MBA with cum laude for his research dissertation and a postgraduate diploma in Development Finance. He also engaged in international development work at the IFC, World Bank Group, but also held managerial positions related to trade and logistics in South Africa and Europe in the private sector.
Johan's research interests include:
- inclusive innovation and development, specifically within the Blue Economy (ocean economy) sectors, topic on which he wrote a paper entitled Riding the African Blue Economy Wave: A South African Perspective drawing worlwide attention to this new phenomenon; and
- ways of fostering sustainability within the ocean economy sectors through multi-stakeholder initiatives and innovation in the context of the Sustainable Business Model Innovation in the Blue Economy project.
