The International Centre for Frugal Innovation was founded in 2013 as one of the centres and programs of the Leiden-Delft-Erasmus strategic alliance. Through innovative and outstanding teaching and research, ICFI seeks to contribute towards understanding and solving the major and complex social issues of our time by connecting science and society, focusing on frugal innovation.

Strategic Alliance
The collaboration between Leiden University, TU Delft, and Erasmus University Rotterdam is in the form of a strategic alliance. This means that the three universities collaborate on the basis of a shared vision and shared objectives in specific areas. The agreements governing the alliance are contained in a set of joint regulations.
