After months of preparation, the LDE minor programme on Frugal Innovation for Sustainable Global Development has launched. The kick-off week has started on 4 September 2018.
The minor is open to all third-year bachelor students of Leiden University, Erasmus University Rotterdam and Delft University of Technology, regardless of study and disciplinary background. The programme consists of theoretically oriented courses, exploring the concepts behind frugal innovation, and an internship, taking place in a foreign country.
During the kick-off week the students followed a varied programme with an introduction game, lectures by both academics from the three universities, presentations by practitioners, and a do it yourself workshop on frugal innovation and (sustainable) development. On the third day students enjoyed the 'internship market' where they could inform themselves better on the internships that they will do in Block 2 of the minor, either in Uganda, Ghana, Ethiopia, Surinam, Curacao or Cambodia. Internship providers were there to present their pitches. In the Faculty Club at Leiden University the start of the minor was toasted upon with festive drinks and finger food.
