Research Communication Internship Vacancy

The ISS and CFIA have a 0.5-0.8 fte position vacancy for an Intern Research Communication (depending on availability). The intern will contribute to ISS and CFIA’s work in making its research more visible and engaging for a wider audience. Please note that we require a minimum of 4 months availability for this internship, with a preferred starting date in late August/early September. Please note that we have some flexibility in the starting date, so please apply if you are only able to start at a later stage.

Tasks include:
● Support the development and implementation of communication plans related to research initiatives at the CFIA and ISS (targeting external or internal stakeholders).
● Contribute to CFIA and ISS research dissemination and communication through various channels (including website, social media, etc.).
● Assist in the Design (DTP) and strategy of various outputs (using Canva and/or InDesign) such as infographics, research briefs, stories, etc.
● Assist in writing and editing content such as research interviews and blogposts.
● Support in the implementation of CFIA alumni relations policy (communication with alumni through social media, organization of alumni events, updating contact details of alumni).
● Contribute to developing a CFIA Student Ambassadors Program by organizing events for the Ambassadors, share information with them and evaluate their activities.
● Support in organization of major (virtual) events/lectures/conferences at the CFIA.

 

Requirements
● Successful completion of at least 2 years of an undergraduate degree (HBO or WO) in a relevant area such as (Science) Communication, Journalism, International Studies and Development Studies.
● Interest in research and communication
● Interest in social sciences, social issues and (frugal) innovation
● Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
● Solid English language skills
● Good computer & organizational skills
● Experience with Desktop publishing (DTP) tools such as InDesign and Canva
● Experience with Drupal is a plus
● Proactive and able to work independently
● Entitled to do an internship under European law (e.g. enrolled at an education institute during time of the internship)

 

Conditions of employment
The selected candidate will assist the Research Communication Officer at ISS and the Communications Officer at CFIA. S/he will be asked to work independently on tasks under the guidance of the two Communication Officers. Due to the current circumstances it is most likely that the selected candidate will at least partially work remotely. Please note that we require a minimum of 4 months availability for this internship. A monthly remuneration of € 350 is available for the intern (when working fulltime). The availability should be at least 0.5 fte. The candidate can be from a Dutch or foreign university. Supervision will be done by the Communication Officers at CFIA and ISS. Centre for Frugal Innovation in Africa
The Centre for Frugal Innovation in Africa was founded in 2013 as one of the Leiden-Delft-Erasmus (LDE) centres as part of the strategic alliance between Leiden University, Delft University of Technology, and Erasmus University Rotterdam. Through innovative and outstanding teaching and research, CFIA seeks to contribute towards understanding and solving some of the complex issues of our time with a focus on frugal innovation. The Secretariat / support team of CFIA is located within the International Institute of Social Studies of Erasmus University Rotterdam. It provides support to the CFIA management team and to academic staff at the three universities that cooperate within CFIA.

Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR)
The Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR), named after Rotterdam-born humanist and theologian Erasmus, is a research university with a strong international orientation and a pronounced social focus, both in its education and research activities. The International Institute of Social Studies (ISS)
The International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) is a leading academic centre for international development studies. While based in The Hague, the ISS is part of Erasmus University Rotterdam. ISS was established in 1952 as a post-graduate institute of policy-oriented critical social science and development oriented research. ISS offers a PhD in Development Studies, a 15,5 months MA in Development Studies, a joint MA in Public Policy (Mundus MAPP), a MPA in Governance delivered in Suriname, and several post-graduate Diploma courses.
